Cam Ranh Bay (Vietnamese: Vịnh Cam Ranh) is a deep-water bay in Vietnam in Khánh Hòa Province.It is located at an inlet of the South China Sea situated on the southeastern coast of Vietnam, between Phan Rang and Nha Trang, approximately 290 kilometers (180 miles) northeast of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon).

Cam Ranh Air Force Base is located on Cam Ranh Bay in Khánh Hòa province, Vietnam. It was one of several air bases built and used by the United States Air Force (USAF) during the Vietnam War. Cam Ranh Air Force Base was part of the large Cam Ranh Bay logistics facility built by the United States.
Since ancient times, Cam Ranh has been an important military and economic location of the Champa kingdom. [4] During this period, Cam Ranh was a bustling commercial center, with many merchants from neighboring countries coming to trade. The land of Cam Ranh was also home to many ethnic minorities, primarily Cham, Ede, and Raglai people. [5]
The contract also includes the training of Vietnamese sailors and the construction of a class-1 standard submarine crew training center at Cam Ranh Bay. On 29 May 2013, the VPN officially established the submarine force and the creation of the 189th Submarine Brigade at Cam Ranh Bay.
The northern end is the southern part of Cam Ranh Bay, which administratively belongs to Cam Lập commune, Cam Ranh town, Khánh Hòa Province. The southeastern end is in the South China Sea, in the communes of Vĩnh Hải and Nhơn Hải of Ninh Hải district. The west is limited by the National Route 1.
On 1 January 1967, the wing was organized and took over Caribou operations. Two squadrons each were located at Cam Ranh Bay, Vung Tau Air Base, and Phu Cat Air Base, [1] [6] [7] although detachments were maintained at an additional six locations. [b] In December 1967, a Viet Cong mortar attack on Can Tho Airfield damaged two wing C-7s.
In April 1971, the battalion's headquarters relocated from Cam Ranh Bay to the large Army base at Bien Hoa. CBMU-302 was the last Seabee battalion to leave the Vietnam war zone, folding its colors at its base-camp in Bien Hoa, RVN on 22 January 1972 then redeploying back to Port Hueneme, CA .
