Airport Police Facility, the department's headquarters, which opened in fall 2021. In 1984, the Airport Security Bureau was renamed the Los Angeles Airport Police. At various times, it has organizationally been a bureau or a division of LAWA, depending on LAWA organizational structures; the "Bureau" designation is no longer used.
In 1949, after the end of the war, the Los Angeles Department of Airports acquired the facility and renamed it San Fernando Valley Airport and later Van Nuys Airport (VNY). Today, Van Nuys is one of the busiest general aviation airports in the world, averaging over 230,000 takeoffs and landings annually.
