Singer Corporation is an American manufacturer of consumer sewing machines, first established as I. M. Singer & Co. in 1851 by Isaac M. Singer with New York lawyer Edward C. Clark. Best known for its sewing machines, it was renamed Singer Manufacturing Company in 1865, then the Singer Company in 1963.

The Singer Building is a 3-story commercial structure located at 1514 Elm Street in the Main Street District in Downtown Dallas, Texas.The structure is one of a handful of original early commercial structures along Elm Street; many others were demolished and replaced by large office blocks during various building booms.
Isaac Merritt Singer (October 27, 1811 – July 23, 1875) was an American inventor, actor, and businessman. He made important improvements in the design of the sewing machine [1] and was the founder of what became one of the first American multi-national businesses, the Singer Sewing Machine Company.
