Harivarasanam (ഹരിവരാസനം) is a Malayalam [1] ashtakam sung as a lullaby to Lord Ayyappan at the Sabarimala Sree Dharma Sastha Temple, situated in Kerala, India.
K. J. Yesudas was born in Kochi, in Kerala, to Augustine Joseph and Elizabeth Joseph. His father was a well-known Malayalam classical musician and stage actor. [10] Yesudas was the second of seven children, preceded by an elder sister named Pushpa, and followed by four younger brothers - Antony (Antappan), Babu, Mani, Justin and a younger sister, Jayamma. Yesudas won his 21st Kerala State Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer for this song. [7] The "Harimuraleeravam" sequence has been an inspiration for similar song sequence in Apthamitra ("Kana Kanade Shaarade") and its remake Chandramukhi ("Athinthom").
The song "Harivarasanam" sung by K. J. Yesudas and composed (in Madhyamavati raga) by G. Devarajan for the film later became part of the daily routine of Sabarimala Temple. It is played every night during the closing ceremony of the temple.
