The Westin Charlotte is a 293 feet (89 m) tall high-rise in Charlotte, North Carolina, [1] designed by John C. Portman.It was built in 2003 and has 25 floors. It is the largest hotel in Charlotte, with 700 rooms, more than 44,000 square feet (4,000 m 2) of convention space, and a 16,276 sq ft (1,512 m 2) ballroom.
In April 2017, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority announced a $110-million expansion to the convention center. The expansion will increase the meeting space by 50,000 square feet and add a bridge for pedestrians linking the center to the Westin Hotel nearby. The project was expected to start construction in early 2019. [2]
The Charlotte Convention Center attracts over 500,000 people a year to its 280,000 square feet (26,000 m 2) of exhibit space. The Convention Center is currently undergoing an expansion to add an additional 50,000 square feet (4,600 m 2) of meeting space and a pedestrian bridge connection to the adjacent Westin hotel. [144]
