Cameo glass vase by Daum Nancy. The Daum family worked at the beginning of the Art Nouveau era and created one of France's most prominent glassworks. Established at the end of the 19th century, Daum's renown was originally linked to the École de Nancy [3] and the art of pâte-de-cristal, a major contributing factor to its worldwide reputation.
Unlike the glass art of the Art Nouveau in France, the Secession glass designs were geometric and abstract, without the curving lines and natural forms of the earlier style. Leopold Forstner was an important artist in this domain, working closely with Otto Wagner and other architects.
Cameo glass was a means of decorating cased glass. The cased glass of two or more colors was carved with a diamond saw or etched with acid, so that the colors of the layer underneath were visible and created a design. Enamel glass was decorated on the outside by a brush of enamels colored by metallic oxides. [11]
Jean-Jacques Duval (Feb. 8, 1930 - Oct. 21, 2021) [1] was a French-born American artist who pioneered abstract art and the use of faceted glass in stained glass design in the 1960s. In 2005 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Stained Glass Association of America. [ 2 ]
