The Camp Beauregard Memorial, outside Water Valley, Kentucky on Kentucky state road 2422 northeast of town, marks the site of a Confederate States Army encampment named for General P. G. T. Beauregard. The camp was situated to protect the right flank of the Confederate encampment at Columbus, Kentucky.
After World War I in 1919, the Army had abandoned Camp Beauregard and turned the property over to the state of Louisiana, which returned it to the United States; however, interest in the military utilization of Camp Beauregard increased significantly in 1939 when war began in Europe. The United States needed a training ground for American troops.
The 225th Engineer Brigade is headquartered at Camp Beauregard near Pineville, Louisiana in Rapides Parish. The brigade conducts missions of mobility, counter-mobility, survivability, and civil engineering support. The brigade possesses a mixture of civil and combat engineer units to accomplish these missions.
The bulk of the division's units, being located in the Fourth Corps Area, trained each summer at Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia, with the 6th Cavalry Regiment, while the 56th Cavalry Brigade and the 141st Field Artillery trained at Camp Wolters, Texas, and Camp Beauregard, Louisiana, respectively.
