The engineering design process, also known as the engineering method, is a common series of steps that engineers use in creating functional products and processes. The process is highly iterative – parts of the process often need to be repeated many times before another can be entered – though the part(s) that get iterated and the number of such cycles in any given project may vary.
The school gradually came to oriented itself theoretical and practical training when tackling and resolving design problems, as opposed to repeating problems that have already been solved (as in artisan education). [6] In 1997, the school added a programme in Industrial Design Engineering, and in 1998, it launched its Architecture programme. [7]
In 2014 the Dyson School of Design Engineering was founded following a £12m donation by the James Dyson Foundation to the college, being the first new engineering division at Imperial for two decades. The school took over the old Met Office building from the Science Museum on the corner of Imperial College Road and Exhibition Road. [16] [17]

Engineering training in Kenya is typically provided by the universities. Registration of engineers is governed by the Engineers Registration Act. A candidate stands to qualify as a registered engineer, R.Eng., if they are a holder of a minimum of four years of post-secondary Engineering Education and a minimum of three years of postgraduate work experience.
A notable early course of this type was introduced at Stanford University in 2003, the Hasso Plattner Institute of Design, known as the d.school. Design thinking can now be seen in International Baccalaureate schools across the world, [47] and in Maker Education organizations. [48] [49]
