Mu Ko Chang National Park (Thai: อุทยานแห่งชาติหมู่เกาะช้าง) is in Trat Province, eastern Thailand. It spans several provincial districts. [ 1 ] It is a marine national park [ 2 ] with an area of 406,250 rai ~ 650 square kilometres (250 sq mi), [ 3 ] including 52 islands. [ 1 ]
It was renamed "Mu ko Chumphon" and established as a national park in 1999 by the forestry department. [2] The area is 198,125 rai ~ 317 square kilometres (122 sq mi). [3] Mu Ko Chumphon National Park has many types of natural resources. Its forests, mostly tropical rainforest, are a type found only on the mountain and on large islands.
Some of the island groups in Thailand come in clusters of numerous individual islands: Phang Nga Bay has 67, the Mu Ko Chang National Park has 52, Tarutao National Marine Park has 51, and Mu Ko Ang Thong National Park has 42.
Ko Chang is part of an archipelago of 52 islands. It is approximately 30 km (19 mi) long by 14 km (8.7 mi) wide. It is part of the Mu Ko Chang National Park, which covers an area of 650 km 2 (250 sq mi), of which 70 percent is offshore. [1] It is a mountainous island, with Khao Salak Phet being the highest peak at 744 m (2,441 ft).
Ao Phang Nga National Park was established by a royal decree, as documented in the Royal Gazette under proclamation number 98, section 64, dated 29 April 1981. The park spans an area of approximately 250,000 rai, equivalent to around 400 square kilometres (150 sq mi).
