All first year students are required to live on campus. Past that, however, there are no requirements. There are housing options for sophomores and upperclassmen, but they do fill up quickly. Often times after freshman year many people end up getting apartments or renting because many of the options are cheaper than on campus housing anyway.

UNC Charlotte does not have as strong an emphasis on the arts; but, being in the city of Charlotte, it has many art museums and galleries nearby.

I like warm weather, so Charlotte is better for that. But I also like the mountain scenery of Boone. Both schools have nice facilities (although I think I liked UNC Charlotte’s a bit more).

Hi everyone! So I’m a freshman at UNC-Chapel Hill and I was wondering what would be the best dorm for me next year. I’m currently staying at Granville and I’m not having the best experience. I haven’t made many friends with the people in my dorm and other than my roommate and my suite mates, almost everyone on my hall is rushing into a fraternity or sorority. Next year, I definitely ...

The Granville rooms are pretty much like any dorm room—small. Two rooms share a bath in between. Granville appears to be well-maintained. While not owned by UNC, Granville has resident hall advisors on each floor, and students must abide by all the regulations of UNC-owned dorms, and are subject to the same sanctions if they fail to do so.

It seems more and more schools, especially in the south are having housing issues. I am wondering if South Carolina has issues getting housing on campus for freshman and moving forward, if it is relatively easy to find off campus housing for future years. Is this one of those school where if you do not pay a housing deposit right when you are admitted you will not find housing?

You should read the UNC housing website specifically about “future residents” and “first year students”. You will find there are specific dorms identified for first years and they are on south campus. The newest ones are in the Manning East/West Communities.
