991 Carrera S. The 991 introduced in 2011 for the 2012 model year is an entirely new platform, only the third since the original 911. Porsche revealed basic information on the new Carrera and Carrera S models on 23 August 2011. [52] The Carrera is powered by a 355 PS (261 kW; 350 hp) 3.4-litre engine.
The Porsche 911 RSR-19 was revealed to have been in development since 2017. [5] In September 2018, spy shots of the new car were seen, published in the German Auto Motor und Sport automobile magazine, taken at the test track of the Porsche Development Center in Weissach, [6] with initial rumors saying that the car would be turbocharged. The "GT3" nameplate was introduced in 1999 as part of the first generation of the Porsche 996 model range (commonly known as 996.1 [2]) as a homologation model for the cars entered in the FIA GT3 cup. As with Porsche's previous 911 RS models, the 996 GT3 was focused on racing, and so was devoid of items that added unnecessary weight to the car.
The 991 RSR debuted in 2013 and for the first time was not based on the GT3 model of the 911, but on the Carrera 4S, as the street version of the GT3 was introduced too late for homologation. [5] Thus, the name conflict with the racing car for the GT3 class could be avoided for the GTE model.
The 2017 version of the Porsche 911 RSR is a racing car developed by Porsche to compete in the LM GTE categories of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest sanctioned FIA World Endurance Championship, European Le Mans Series and GTLM class, of the International Motor Sports Association's IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
