The ninth season featured Tom Kenny as the voice of the title character SpongeBob SquarePants and his pet snail Gary. He opined that though it retained the series' humor, it did not feel cohesive and particularly disliked the film's focus on its new characters, which he felt distracted from the "SpongeBob mainstays", including Squidward and Patrick.
