The YWCA at 87 Elm Street was originally the Toronto House of Industry, a workhouse established in the centre of the Ward in 1848 to serve impoverished residents. Also, a small group of row houses still stands on Elm Street just west of Bay Street, on the south side - possibly the last surviving remnant of the ward's residential character.

Barberian's Steak House is a downtown Toronto steakhouse located at 7 Elm Street, close to Yonge–Dundas Square.It was founded in 1959 by Harry Barberian (1930–2001) and is now owned by his son, Arron Barberian.
The building was originally home to Bathurst Street Wesleyan Methodist Church. This congregation was an extension of Elm Street WMC, and started in 1860. In 1862, services were being conducted in a cottage on nearby Markham Street, and the area was known as Seaton Village, still outside of the Toronto city limits.
