The 2024–25 Ethiopian Premier League (known as the BetKing Ethiopian Premier League for sponsorship reasons) is the 26th season of the Ethiopian Premier League, and the 78th season of top-division football in Ethiopia. The season started on 20 September 2024, and scheduled to conclude on 8 July 2025.
The inaugural 1997-98 Ethiopian Premier League Season saw Ethio Electric (known as Mebrat Hail at the time) lift the trophy. The following year the league decided to increase the number of teams to 10, a year that ended with perennial favorites St. George S.C lifting their first Premier League trophy (16th title overall).
1 January – Ethiopia announces an agreement with Somaliland to use 20 kilometers of coastline, including the port of Berbera, in exchange for eventual recognition of the Somaliland Declaration of Independence, which would make it the first country to do so. [1] The first round of matches were held at Hawassa stadium and Dire Dawa Stadium, while the second round of matches were held at Adama and Bahir dar Stadium.
Ethiopia has a multi-party parliament. The legislature was mostly dominated by the Ethiopian People's Revolutionary Democratic Front, until it was succeeded by the Prosperity Party in December 2019. The latest general election would have taken place in August 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [1]
