The Carter Carburetor Company was an American manufacturer of carburetors, primarily for the automobile industry. It was established in St. Louis , Missouri, in 1909 and ceased operation in 1985. Founder William Carter started experimenting with automotive carburetors while running a successful bicycle shop.
For the 1967 model year, a 2-barrel carburetor setup was released for export production. This configuration, similar to that found on marine G-engines beginning in 1965, consisted of an iron intake manifold with open-plenum 2-barrel carburetor mounting pad, a Carter BBD carburetor, and associated air cleaner, linkage and plumbing changes.
The original compression ratio is 7.6:1. Power and torque output are 120 hp (89.5 kW) at 4000 rpm and 191.8 lb⋅ft (260 N⋅m) at 2200 rpm respectively. The engine weighs 235 kg (518.1 lb). The intake manifold and a two barrel Carter carburetor are centrally located between the cylinder banks.
The 430 was replaced by the 462 cu in (7.6 L; 7,565 cc) engine in 1966. Bore and stroke were entirely different at 4.38 and 3.83 inches (111.3 and 97.3 mm) and the 462 MEL engine produced 340 hp (254 kW) and as much as 485 lb⋅ft (658 N⋅m) of torque. This engine was fitted with hydraulic lifters and a four-barrel Carter AFB carburetor.

Designer and bodywork specialist Bob Blake was hurriedly brought in to repair "Petit Pataud" when it was damaged in a pre-race shunt with "Le Monstre". Blake later joined B. S.
