Mid-City West is an area in the western part of Central Los Angeles that is served by the Mid City West Neighborhood Council. It contains the neighborhoods of Beverly–Fairfax , Beverly Grove , Burton Way, Carthay Circle , Melrose , Miracle Mile and Park La Brea .
West Rancho Dominguez, (pronunciation ⓘ) formerly known as West Compton and also known as East Gardena, [3] is an unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) located in southern Los Angeles County, California. Per the 2020 census, the population was 24,347. [4] The community lies to the west (but is not a part) of the city of Compton.
The 2010 U.S. census counted 18,496 residents in the area's 91345 ZIP Code. The median age was 36.3, and the median yearly household income at that time was $62,426. [2] In 2009, the Los Angeles Times ' s "Mapping L.A." project supplied the following numbers for the community of Mission Hills. Population: 18,237; median household income: $75,675.
De Soto Avenue was named after Hernando de Soto, a Spanish explorer who led the first European expedition into the southeastern United States.Several of the San Fernando Valley's north–south streets were originally named after historic explorers, including De Soto, Balboa, Alvarado, Cabrillo, Cortez, and Diaz, but De Soto Avenue and Balboa Boulevard are the only street names that remain.
A few blocks ahead marks the end of North Mission Road. [citation needed] While the Los Angeles portion ends at Huntington Drive and Soto Street, there is a gap in the route. Another portion resumes in Alhambra, at the Los Angeles-Alhambra line and continues into San Gabriel and Rosemead where it becomes Mission Drive and ends at Valley Boulevard.
A petition to name the area Mid-City Heights began circulating in the community in September 2015. A petition to name a neighborhood must contain 500 signatures from residents and businesses the reside in the community being named. The petition with 540 signatures was submitted to the Los Angeles City Clerk on January 7, 2017.
In 2006, the Los Angeles Times reported that with Dreamgirls and Numb3rs filming at Los Angeles Center Studios, the city’s decades-old vision for City West was finally being fulfilled.
