Bute Inlet [1] is one of the principal inlets of the British Columbia Coast. It is 80 km (50 mi) long from the estuaries of the Homathko and Southgate Rivers at the head of the inlet, to the mouth, where it is nearly blocked by Stuart Island , and it averages about 4 km (2.5 mi) in width.

Mount Bute, also known as Bute Mountain, is a 2,810-metre (9,220-foot) mountain located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, Canada. Situated at the southern extreme of the Homathko Icefield , Mount Bute has an impressive 800-metre sheer granite west face, and Bute Glacier dominates the north aspect.
It is situated at the mouth of Bute Inlet [1] to the east of the larger Sonora Island within Electoral Area C of the Strathcona Regional District. The island, [2]: 474 and Bute Inlet, [2]: 73 were named for John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute, Prime Minister of Great Britain from 1762 to 1763.
